1. Know the Basics

Master the basic skills first. Don't try to master physical capacity first!

Take the time to focus on the basics. Most people want to skip past the basics and start lifting like the big boys/girls. The better you understand the basics and form the better you will be able to focus on your development as an athlete.

It is hard for anyone to focus on so many things. Take your time don't worry about increasing physical capacity. Stay focused developing your skills. Don't push it off for a later date. Because you wont do it!

WORK ON THESE BASICS

Bodyweight skills:
Handstand walks, ring dips, muscle-ups, pull-ups, double-unders, handstand push-ups, pistols, and rope climbs

Barbell skills:
Snatch progression (overhead squat, power snatch from hang, power snatch, squat snatch from hang, squat snatch), clean progression (front squat, power clean from hang, power clean, squat clean from hang, squat clean), shoulder to overhead progression (military press, push press, power jerk, split jerk), overhead walking lunges.

Dumbbell/kettlebell skills:
Power snatch, squat snatch.

There's tons more but if you can't do these basics you shouldn't even start thinking about going on to those. A large part of your training should be devoted to practicing these skills.
