6 Fit Tips for a "Ripped" New Year

by Adam Legas

I'm 46 and I am finding that I take off my shirt less often than I use to when I was younger.  So I ask myself, "Do I really care about being 'ripped' ?" My wife is still attracted to me, and she isn't as picky as I feel she should be. With the new year about to start, should I really set a goal to lose body fat and become "ripped"? Hell yes! I plan to give it a go and see if I can't get as lean as I was in college. Not for my wife or my neighbor, I want to do it for me.

There was a time, over 20 years ago, that as a fitness model, I had to be "ripped" all the time. I was a bachelor and hated cooking, now I'm not a bachelor, but I still hate cooking. So in order to stay lean back then I just suffered.  I had ridiculous will power and would eat tuna from the can and eat a raw head of broccoli.

They didn't have near the advancements in supplements and healthy snack options that they have now. I vowed I would never eat like that again. So, I am going to give you a little look into what I plan to do to get lean and mean.

1) Eat 5 to 6 Small Meals a Day.

Right now I eat 2 decent meals and then eat a huge dinner. But the best thing for me to do is plan my day a little better and have 5 or 6 small meals. In order to do this, I will make sure I have protein powered  at the office and I'll bring plenty of nuts and some Nature's Valley granola bars. A few times a day I'll shake up 20 grams of protein, grab a large handful of nuts and eat one of the two bars in an Oats n Honey granola bar pack.

2) Fasted Cardio

I admit it's way hard to do cardio when it's cold outside.  So I plan to get in some cardio first thing in the morning, "fasted cardio". It makes a huge difference in how quickly you burn fat when you do cardio on an empty stomach.

3) Mix it up

I keep track of my cardio, but I make sure to mix it up so I don't get bored. I will do sprints one day, then the next day I will go on a hard bike ride. Mixing things up, stimulates the brain as well as utilizes different muscle groups.

4) Stay Hydrated

Now this is tricky. A lot of people say drink, drink, drink. Yes, if you drink more you will be less hungry. However, if you drink too much, you will dilute your electrolytes and that means you feel lethargic and bloated. I will drink a glass of water before every meal. This will help me cut my Mountain Dew intake as well. Of course I will be using NanoHydr8 during my workouts! NanoHydr8 will ensure that I stay properly hydrated during my work out and give me energy through the rest of my day.

5) Cut out Sugar

This is a hard one for me as I am sure it is for you.  So I give myself one day a week that I just eat crap all day.  Most people have a cheat meal.  I just take the whole day! I'm a rebel like that. This will take a lot of will power for a lot of people. Once you get those simple sugars, your body starts to call out for it again. You may want to start with a cheat meal, and see how it goes, before try a whole cheat day.

6)Hit the Weights

Nothing works better to burn fat than a hardcore session at the gym. Personally, I love it.  Also, by developing lean muscle, it will allow me to burn fat all day long. Try to stick to a schedule. Plan out your week. I lift hard Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

This might seem hard, and it actually kind of is.  If it was easy, everybody would be ripped. I know I'm not going to be perfect, but I am going to track my progress.  I will know every Friday if I am on track or if I have been slacking.

EVERYTHING worth having takes real work. It doesn't happen overnight, but I know that hard work pays off. Not always the way we expect, but it will pay off! You got this! I got this! We can do it.
