1. Neuropathic Pain
Neuropathic pain is a very odd and uncomfortable feeling which occurs when one or more of the nerve pathways are either injured or dysfunctioning. This pain is often described as a tingling, burning, or shooting pain that moves up or down a located or different areas of the body.
Neuropathic pain is typically caused by shingles, sciatica, multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, lumbar radiculopathy, or trigeminal neuralgia. The treatment depends on the cause of the pain, if it is muscular, then physical therapy will work, if it is medical, then you may need medication.
2. Nociceptive Pain
Nociceptive pain is the most common type of pain, which encompasses multiple different types of common injuries. This includes everything from a sprained wrist to a 1st-degree burn, lower back pain, knee pain, and more.
Typically, this pain is associated with tissue damage, such as touching a hot stovetop, which activates the biofeedback loop and warns your hand to retract without any further damage. Nociceptors are little pain receptors that detect damage to your tissues
This pain acts as a protector and reminds you that there has been an injury so that you take proper care of it to get better.
3. Muscle Pain
Muscle pain is another form of Nociceptive pain and is otherwise known as musculoskeletal pain. This type of pain is strictly just about muscular injuries, and less about the other tissues, such as the skin.
Muscle pain is caused by improper movement, either overstretched or tears in the muscle, which leads to inflammation and elongated pain. Treatment usually includes the REST technique, which stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
If the injury is a sprain or pulled muscle, it may take massage therapy, physiotherapy, or chiropractic care to resolve the pain. They will give you useful exercises to help you with the rehabilitation. If there is a lot of inflammation, it is important to keep it down by taking anti-inflammatories until the pain subsides.
